2008 Season
Whittington Outruns Rain At Pike County
By: Sidra Moneyhun
Four weeks have passed since the last race for the CSA,
everyone was able to take a short vacation, breathe a little
easier and regroup for the next event. Twenty-one sprinters
made the trip to Pike County this past weekend with a grim
outlook on the weather. It had been threatening rain for the
past week and Saturday was certainly no different.
I watched the radar the entire evening thinking there was
no way we were going to get this race in. Thunderstorms were
moving in from the west and we were getting a few stray rain
drops here and there as well. But to no avail I kept
checking the radar and the storms broke off… one went North
of the track and the other just South of it. Looks like we
were going to get lucky.
Shane Morgan took the first heat win of the night in his
# 01. The # 9 of Lane Whittington took home heat win number
two of the night but not before the # 7 of Marshal Yelverton
won gold for the violent summersault he did off of turn
four. No worries though he walked away from that crash
unhurt, wish I could say the same for the car though.
The # 12 of Rusty Sanford who is no stranger to a sprint
car captures heat win number three of the night.
Congratulations Rusty, it’s good to have ya’ll back!
I’m sorry to say that the Cajun Sprinter drivers weren’t
able to mingle with the fans Saturday night, but with the
rain threatening like so it just left no choice. Sorry fans
we will catch it next time.
Shane and Lane sat on the pole positions for the feature
race with Rusty Sanford and Michael Herrington right behind.
With the rain still lingering there was no telling what
these guys had in mind.
Off to a quick start though was Lanes # 9 but Michael
Herringtons # 7 wasn’t to be denied. These two battled the
entire race. Whittington was loosing his nose wing and
Herrington seemed to be gaining on him. Coming off of turn
four Herrington made the pass but not before the caution
came out. Whittington was just as determined after that move
and didn’t take another one of those chances. The # 9
crossed the checkereds first with Herrington right in tow.
The feature finish is as follows…
1. #9 Lane Whittington
2. #7 Michael Herrington
3. #01 Shane Morgan
4. #31 John Craddock
5. #06 Jason Breeland
6. #15 Justin McKenzie
7. #K9 Robert Casada
8. #52 Roger Oakes
9. #19 Klint Angelette
10. #83 Herman Carrier
11. #36 Chris Hoyt
12. #143 Donald Parker
13. #0 Jerry Kennedy
14. #10 Tom Ebersole
15. #16 Moe Douroux
16. #93 Tim Dillon
17. #43 Ricky Beasley
18. #17 Adam Moneyhun
19. #12 Rusty Sanford
20. #09 Timmy Thrash
21. #7 Marshal Yelverton
We would like to thank the staff at Pike County Speedway
for preparing a fantastic track and look forward to
returning in September.
Dupuy and
Whittington "Duke" It Out Independence Day Weekend
By: Sidra Moneyhun
This year as our country celebrated its 232 year of
independence, the CSA had a showdown at the 2 day event at
Southern Speedway, Hattiesburg, Mississippi Friday night and
then on to A-1 Speedway Lacombe, Louisiana Saturday night.
Both nights were lit up with bright firework skies and
lots of racing action.
Friday night featured a full field of 23 cars coming out
to enjoy the holiday.
Heat # 1 found # 01 of Shane Morgan in the winners circle
and a close call for Adam Moneyhuns # 17, bouncing up on one
wheel displaying the entire underside of that car but
somehow maneuvering that sprinter back on all four wheels
and finishing the race.
Heat # 2 saw our points leader Marshal Yelverton take his
# 7 into the lead and never look back. Roger Oakes and his #
52 copied the # 17’s maneuver but wasn’t quite as lucky to
put it back on all four wheels. Thank God no one was hurt
though.
Heat # 3 held some contact during this race. I didn’t
know sprint car racing was a contact sport. Dupuy and
Whittington must have changed the rules of the game. The # 9
of Lane Whittington slipped under Dupuys # 3K and on to the
checkered flag.
Heat # 4 found Jason Breelands # 06 in victory lane for a
well earned win as well.
Twenty cars took the track for the feature event Friday
night at Southern Speedway. The fireworks lit up the sky as
they prepared to take the green.
The cars weren’t able to give the salute to the crowd but
they sure managed to get three wide on the break. I just
knew something was going to "break" seeing that happening.
They were lucky though not the first car touched. I have to
tip my hat to them for keeping it under control.
When it was all said and done though the # 9 came out on
top. Lane Whittington climbed to the top wing and tossed his
gloves into the crowd, not only to celebrate his own victory
but our own country’s independence as well.
A-1 Speedway – Saturday Night
For the second night in a row we all found ourselves
sitting at a racetrack wondering just what was in store for
the night. Independence Day weekend held more surprises and
fun than we could have ever imagined.
Heat winners of the night were # 7 Marshal Yelverton, # 9
Lane Whittington, and
# 3K Michael Dupuy.
The CSA had a surprise for the kids Saturday night. They
managed to get in touch with Spiderman and asked him to come
and visit with the fans. Well he did he came riding in on
the back of a wagon throwing goodies and hugging "young uns".
Time for the feature came, the track displayed a
spectacular firework show that left the track full of smoke.
The guys had to make a few extra laps around the track to
help clear out the smoke so the race could go on.
When the smoke cleared after the feature, Dupuy had the
win. Whittington was close behind but didn’t quite have
enough to catch Dupuy at the end.
It was a great weekend of racing for all. Friends, family
and a great sport that brings everyone together especially
for a holiday weekend.
We would like to thank both tracks for inviting us to
spend the holiday with them and are eager to return for
another event.
Herrington Scores Win Number Two
In Gulfport
By: Sidra Moneyhun
It was a hot and muggy night in Gulfport,
Mississippi this past Saturday
night. Twenty-one cars drew their numbers for the
evening and were on their way to a fast night of
racing.
Timmy Thrash took his # 09 to the winners circle
in heat race one for a much needed win, with the #
83 of Herman Carrier in second.
Joe Gillentine walked away with heat race two for
his first ever win with the Cajun Sprinters.
Heat race number threes winner was none other the
# 7 of Michael Herrington. Boy when he goes to the
track he just absolutely takes it by storm.
The feature was definitely a tense race. Two cars
ended up on their lids due to some very close
racing.
Darrel Bond launched his # 8 right over the wall
about halfway into the feature. Thank God he walked
away from that crash ok. It wasn’t pretty.
Marshall Yelverton’s # 7 did one heck of a summer
sault and landed on its side as well. He was another
driver that was lucky to walk away from a crash like
that. It must have been a full moon Saturday night.
When all was over and the dust finally cleared,
it was Michael Herrington’s # 7 that made it to the
checkereds first. He sure made that feature look
easy. The CSA would like to thank the staff at South
Mississippi Speedway for giving us the opportunity
to race on their track and we always look forward to
racing there in the future.

Two In A Row For Wild Thang
Whittington
By: Sidra Moneyhun
The points race for the Cajun Sprinters is getting
interesting, very
interesting. Not only has Lane Whittington and his # 9
brought home two feature
wins in two weeks, but Marshall Yelverton has the points
run in his sights as well. It
looks to be a close run and we aren’t even half way
through the season!
Let’s see… Saturday night 20 sprinters gathered to "duke"
it out at A-1
Raceway in Lacombe, Louisiana. We had a new driver with
us this weekend. His
first night as a Cajun driver was 15 year old Klint
Angelette proudly driving his
dads # 19, former Cajun Sprinter points champion Kelly
Angelette. We are just
ecstatic having them racing with us. Welcome back!
Heat race one…have you ever seen a sprint car turn over
on the first lap of
the FIRST heat race? Well, Justin McKenzie did it
Saturday night. He turned his
# 15 right on over, changed the tire on that baby and
came back to finish second.
Herman Carrier in the # 83 slipped away with the first
heat win for the CSA of the
night.
Heat race two… Wild Thang Whittington in the # 9 grabbed
another heat
win. How many is that now? Too many for me to keep up.
Heat race three… John Craddock came all the way from
Pensacola, FL to
race and it paid off, he walked away with the third heat
of the night.
Heat race four…this is no stranger to the winners circle
Shane Morgan in
the # 01 brought it home for the final heat win of the
night.
The Cajun drivers will always love to mingle with their
fans, they moseyed
on over to the grandstand to pass out some giveaways and
sign autographs. I think
everyone enjoyed it. We had to run the drivers out of the
stands for their own
feature race. We promise to have more cups next time
around.
Mr. Ronnie was kind enough to give the drivers an
introduction before the
feature event, it’s always nice to be welcomed so warmly.
The feature race was going to be a shoo in. Whoever made
it to the turn
first was going to have the advantage. It was Whittington
that came out of the turn
first and he set sail with it. The closest challenge was
Mike Herrington’s # 7 and
he had to give it his all to even get close to
Whittington. But in the end Whittington
was still on top and brought home his second feature win
two weeks in a row.
We would like to thank the staff at A-1 Raceway for
preparing a great track for
us to race on.

WILD THANG WINS BATTLE
OF TITANS
One of the best races took place in Loxley Al. on
Saturday night in front of some amazing fans. The feature
race was the perfect gumbo for a sprint car race. We started
with major drama then filled in the middle with some of the
best driving of the year and ended with the infamous flips
known around the world in sprint car racing.
First every team and official with the Cajun Sprinters
would like to publicly apologize for the unsportsmanlike
conduct displayed by one of our team drivers on the front
stretch of the speedway. The action displayed by this driver
DOES NOT represent the Cajun Sprinters or any of our other
teams. We strive to put on the best show you have ever seen
every time we touch the track. We can not exist without the
wonderful fans and those amazing children who look up to
these drivers as role models. All the guys are looking
forward to coming back to make the next show a true
spectacle for the wonderful crowd and track promoters.
Speaking of track promoters, we would like to thank Mr.
Bill Webb and Mark Joiner for giving us an awesome surface.
The track was super fast and we proved it with our average
pace for the feature running in the low 15 second bracket.
Now let’s get to the action,
In heat one we had some big guns in a field loaded with
talented drivers. As the checkered flag fell we had the #9
of WILD THANG Lane Whittington crossing first followed by
THE BILOXI BANDIT #01 of Shane Morgan second followed
closely by the #09 of Timmy Thrash crossing third. The #93
of Tim Dillon and the #10 and #0 of Tom and Jerry rounded
out the finishing order.
Heat two boasted a little of everything. We had the #36
of Chris Thornton taking the checkers first and the two
young guns #06 Jason Breeland and the #32 of Hunter
Phillips. Then we had the Veteran of Michael Herrington in
his 7H machine and the #15 of Justin Mckenzie rounding the
field out. A note of interest in this heat was the great
driving by the #32 of Hunter Phillips holding of the multi
champion of Michael Herrington for 3rd. Phillips
fought back several times and didn’t back down from this
fight. I look forward to seeing him in winners circle.
The final heat of the night was filled with veteran
sprint car drivers. I would hate to have had to add the
years of experience within this field and the veterans did
not disappoint with a great race. After the dust settled we
had the #31 of John Crash Cradock crossing first with the
current CSA president #83 of Herman THE HERMANATOR Carrier
close behind in second and Mr. Consistency himself the #7 of
Marshall Yelverton in third. The #c4 machine of Tracy Hinds
was 4th and the #42 of Joe Gillentine rounding
the field. The #42 is a new team for the Cajun Sprinters but
the driver Joe Gillentine is no stranger to sprint car
racing. After this teams get the bugs worked out of this
machine this will be a contender every weekend.
After the drivers and fans got to spend some true quality
time together during intermission the clocked ticked down to
zero and the battle was on. After all the drama, great
racing, and a flip ended we had the #9 of Lane Whittington
taking home the big check and bragging rights for the week.
He was followed by the #01 of Shane Morgan, and #31 of John
Crash Craddock rounding out the top three. The #7 machine of
Marshall Yelverton and #7h of Michael Herrington rounded out
the top five. In finishing order we had #09 of Timmy Thrash,
#06 of Jason Breeland, #83 of Herman Carrier< #32 of Hunter
Phillips, the k9 of, the c4 of Tracy Hinds, the #10 and #0
of Tom and Jerry, then the #15 of Justin Mckenzie ,#36 of
Chris Tim Thornton, the #93 of Tim Dillonand the #42 of Joe
Gillentine closing the field out.
Just a note the #52 of Roger oaks and the #16 of Moe
Doureaux was not able to start due to mechanical failures
during hot laps.
Our next show will be at A1 Speedway in Lacombe
Louisiana. We expect a huge field so expect a great show. We
hope to see you there!!!!

WOW!!!
That’s all I have to say about this wonderful facility
at Flomaton Raceway in Flomaton Alabama. The Cajun Sprinters
rolled into the speedway with 18 teams competing for the
final checkers of the night. By looking at the track it
didn’t seem to be that difficult to accomplish but I do
believe every team with the CSA will agree we have now found
a track on our schedule that can be named "The Track to
Tough to Tame"!
Before getting to the action the Cajun Sprinters would
like to thank the great staff for the wonderful facility
they provided for us. We would also like to thank all the
fans for there support of the track and the Cajun Sprinters.
Also, a special thanks goes to the #15 of Justin McKenzie
and the #83 of Herman Carrier for driving up to display
there cars at Jim Peach Chevrolet and one of our newest
series sponsors, O’Reillys Auto Parts.
O’Reillys has signed on as a full series sponsor for
the remainder of the season. With this addition we believe
the CSA is continuing to take amazing steps in the right
direction to be able to build on our points fund, our weekly
purse and above all a great reputation for heart pounding
racing not for weak hearted! Speaking of racing lets get to
the action!!!
In heat one of the night we had the #83 of Herman the
Hermanator Carrier taking the lead and never looked back.
There was a great battle for second with #9 of Lane
Whittington followed by the #31 of John "Crash" Craddock
rounding out the top 3. The #4 Joe Gillentine of Tennessee
and #32 of Hunter Phillips rounded out the field.
In heat two we had the #01 of Shane Morgan crossing
the checkers first with the #7 of Marshall Yelverton in
second and Justin McKenzie rounding out the top three. He
was followed by the #93 to finish the field. We would like
to make a special note to thank the 8w for traveling to run
with us as well. They lost an engine before the heat race
began to end there night early.
In the third heat we had one of our former CSA
president, crossing the checkers first in the K9 of Robert
Casada. With Casada having some engine issues it made this
heat very interesting. Following Casada was the 09 of Timmy
Trash followed by the #52 of Roger Oaks rounding out the top
three. The field finished with the #06 of Jason Breelend and
C4 Casey Hinds closing this one out.
In the feature the Cajun Sprinters had 17 sprinters on
this small bull ring and after just watching the 4 abreast I
knew passing was going to be at a minimum. When the green
fell the action got started early with a break down here or
a part failure there but everyone knew with a track this
small and tight, there was no way to avoid the " BIG ONE "!!
It happened. As one car got loose or bumped or pushed
well who knows< it just depends on who you ask the race red
flagged there were four cars unable to roll on their own or
at all. Justin McKenzie #15, #32 of Hunter Phillips, #52 of
Roger Oaks and the #4 Joe Gillentine were all involved. Just
as in any other series there were a few tempers but everyone
let cooler heads prevail and left it on the track. When the
Feature checkers fell we had #01 of Shane Morgan winning the
huge battle with the 9 of Whittington close behind. On the
bumper of him was the #7 of Yelverton who, yet again, put in
a solid front running performance on a very difficult track.
The #09 of Timmy Thrash battled his way up to 4th
with K9 of Cassada rounding out the top five. With another
solid finish came the #06 of Breelend in 6th and
the #83 of Herman the Hermanator carrier in the spidy
machine in 7th.Rounding out the field was the #C4
followed by #10 then the #31 of John ( NOT JANE ) Crash
Craddock . The #93, #0, #52, #32, #4, #15 , #8w finishing
the field.
We have another week off to fix all the bumps and
bruises but then roll into the monster track itself in
Loxley Alabama, at Deep South Speedway. This is a driver’s
track where these machines can stretch there legs a bit. We
hope to see all the amazing teams who make the Cajun
Sprinters, In Loxley Al.

Herrington Returns With A Vengeance.
By: Sidra Moneyhun
The Cajun Sprinters Association made their way to Deep
South Speedway in Loxley, AL this past weekend. Nineteen
cars made the trip and it was well worth it.
Michael Herrington in his # 7 took command during heat
number one and never looked back. The # 31 of John Craddock
took 2nd , Justin McKenzie’s # 15 in 3rd
, Jerry Kennedy’s # 0 in 4th , Tom Ebersole’s #
10 in 5th , Hunter Phillips # 32 in 6th
, and Jason Breeland’s # 06 in 7th ,
Herman Carrier took the "Spidey Mobile" to heat win
number two of the night. With Robert Casada’s # K9 in 2nd
, Roger Oakes # 52 in 3rd , Timmy Thrash’s # 09
in 4th , Michael Ward’s # 8W in 5th ,
and Nick Engle’s # 98 in 6th.
Todd Fayard grabbed heat win three of the night, with
Shane Morgan’s # 01 in 2nd , Marshall Yelverton’s
# 7 in 3rd , Darrel Bond’s # 8 in 4th
, Casey Hinds # C4 in 5th , and Chris Thornton’s
# 36 in 6th .
The dash held yet another surprise when Michael
Herrington brought his # 7 from 5th to 1st
to win the dash and earn him the pole position for the
feature. That would be win # 2 of the night for him. But it
wasn’t over just yet.
Nineteen Cajuns took the track for the feature line-up
going four wide for the "salute to the fans" while at the
same time a fantastic fireworks show was being shot just for
the CSA.
When the green flag dropped Herrington took the lead and
never looked back.
There was some excitement that brought out the red flag
when the # 01 of Shane Morgan lost his left rear wheel
sending cars scrambling to get out of the way, the # K9 of
Robert Casada took the worst of it anyway after trying to
stay out of the commotion, putting him on his top.
The # 98 of Nick Engle took a wild ride also after
hitting a rut and bicycling turning him over too.
After all was said and done though, Herrington wouldn’t
be denied the feature and also his 3rd win of the
night.
The feature finish is as follows:
1. # 7 Michael Herrington
2. # 15 Justin McKenzie
3. # 31 John Craddock
4. # 52 Roger Oakes
5. # 7 Marshall Yelverton
6. # 09 Timmy Thrash
7. # 06 Jason Breeland
8. # 32 Hunter Phillips
9. # 36 Chris Thornton
10. # 8W Michael Ward
11. # 0 Jerry Kennedy
12. # 98 Nick Engle
13. # 83 Herman Carrier
14. # C4 Casey Hinds
15. # K9 Robert Casada
16. # 01 Shane Morgan
17. # 10 Tom Ebersole
18. # 8 Darrel Bond
19. # 2 Todd Fayard
The Cajun Sprinters Association would like to thank the
staff at Deep South Speedway for providing a great racetrack
for us to race on and will be looking forward to returning
in May.

Twenty Cajun Sprinters made the short haul to Pike County
for the first
scheduled race there of the season. It was a busy day for
everyone with radio shows and car shows presenting and also
promoting the Cajun Sprinters Association.

Cajuns visit Louisiana once again.
By: Sidra Moneyhun
The Cajun Sprinters had their second race of the season
this past weekend at A-1 Speedway in Lacombe, Louisiana.
Eighteen sprinters pulled into a “could have been nasty
night” due to the severe thunderstorms that dumped plenty
heavy rain across the state the night before. They were in
for a surprise though; it turned out to be a fantastic night
to race!
Timmy Thrash in his # 09 took the first heat win of the
night. That was a well deserved win after all the trouble he
had two weeks ago in Gulfport. He must have got the “bugs”
worked out.
Shane Morgan in his # 01 that took the first feature win
of the year “sideways” captured heat win number two of the
night.
Lane Whittington took his # 9 to the checkered with
little effort in heat number three.
The feature line up looked to be interesting with Lane
and Shane on the pole positions. When the green dropped
Morgan was out front with his # 01 but Whittington’s # 9
wouldn’t take no for an answer. Lane took the lead from
Morgan on lap 7 and never looked back. Lap after lap the # 9
put more and more distance between him and Morgan.
During caution lap # 3 just before the green fell for
the last time, the # 83 of Herman Carrier, his own left rear
tire passed him up going off the exit. Thank God no one was
hurt except a little pride.
After the green fell for the last time of the night
Whittington’s # 9 wouldn’t be denied again. After a heat win
I guess he just wanted a little more. The # 9 took the
checkered with Morgan’s # 01 giving one last try to no
avail.
Congratulations to Lane on the feature win, putting him
out front in the points standings.
The feature finish is as follows:
1. # 9 Lane Whittington, 2. # 01 Shane Morgan, 3. # 31
John Craddock, 4. # 7 Marshall Yelverton, 5. # 2 Todd Fayard,
6. # 15 Justin McKenzie, 7. # 09 Timmy Thrash, 8. # 59
Brandon Olsen, 9. # 36 Chris Thornton, 10. # 16 Moe Douroux,
11. # 06 Jason Breeland, 12. # 32 Hunter Phillips, 13. # 83
Herman Carrier, 14. # 17 Adam Moneyhun, 15. # 10 Tom
Ebersole, 16. # 0 Jerry Kennedy, 17. # 74 Nick Klein, 18. #
52 Roger Oakes.
The Cajun Sprinters Association would like to thank the
staff at A-1 Speedway for providing us with a fantastic
racetrack to race on and the hospitality to go along with it
as well. We look forward to returning to A-1 Speedway in
May.
Morgan Takes Checkereds "Sideways"
By: Sidra Moneyhun
The Cajun Sprinters Association rolled into South
Mississippi Speedway March 22 for the first race of the 2008
season. Twenty- three sprinters pulled into the pits, all
eager for the evening to kick off after a long season off.
Heat race 1 got things going with a fast but furious
group of cars. Justin McKenzie in the # 15 "caught some air"
when he pulled one heck of a wheel stand. The entire bottom
of that car was showing. He was "shooting for the stars."
But to no avail the # 9 of Lane Whittington was charging
hard and took the first heat win of the night.
Moe Douroux and his # 16 with its "new do" took heat win
number two without much effort.
Heat race 3 was a feature race in itself. Herman, Chris,
Lincoln, Crash, Timmy, and Marshall all lined up for # 3.
And a fast race it was. But he Chris Thornton’s # 36
wouldn’t be turned down. He took heat win # 3.
Todd Fayard and his # 2 sprinter took the last heat win
of the night with a hard charging # 01 of Shane Morgan close
behind.
The CSA drivers had their first dash of the 2008 season.
The top earning point’s drivers from each heat race pulled a
number to line up in a dash that determined the line up for
the feature. Where ever they finished in the dash is where
they start in the feature. And did I mention they only had 5
laps to get it done? The 8 fastest cars of the night all
lined up and what a DASH! Lane Whittington came out on top
once again putting him on the pole position for the feature.
Twenty – three sprinters lined up for the first feature
race of the 2008 season. With Lane & Shane bringing them
around they gave the "salute to the fans" thanking them for
spending their Easter holiday weekend with us.
When the green fell it was all business. Lane
Whittington’s # 9 had jumped out into an early lead with the
# 01 of Shane Morgan in hot pursuit. Lap after lap the two
battled back and forth for the lead. More than enough
cautions came giving the # 01 chance after chance at
catching the # 9. When the white flag dropped, Morgan’s
patience was up. It paid off though. Morgan slid by the # 9,
coming across the line sideways to take the first feature
win of the 2008 season. Morgan got a standing ovation when
he climbed from the sprinter after the win to be greeted by
none other than Lane Whittington for a hand shake and race
well run.
The finishing order for the feature is as follows: 1. #
01 Shane Morgan, 2. # 9 Lane Whittington, 3. # 31 John
Craddock, 4. # 52 Roger Oakes, 5. # 7 Marshall Yelverton, 6.
# 83 Herman Carrier, 7. # 32 Hunter Phillips, 8. # 0 Jerry
Kennedy, 9. # 143 Mike Beasley, 10. # 15 Justin McKenzie,
11. # 16 Moe Douroux, 12. # 38 Lincoln Gatwood, 13. # 17
Adam Moneyhun 14. # 2 Todd Fayard, 15. # 00 Matt Reed, 16. #
43 Ricky Beasley, 17. # 06 Jason Breeland, 18. # 09 Timmy
Thrash, 19. # 36 Chris Thornton, 20. # 10 Tom Ebersole, 21.
