The Cajun Sprinters Association is an elite sprint car racing
club based mainly in the southeast region of the United States. This
club is also an entry-level organization that is strictly family
oriented. It was founded in 1990 by six people: Larry Todd, Chuck
Todd, P.O. Schmidt, Denise Todd, Abe Davis and Buddy Hebert and
given the title Southern Thunder Racing Tour.
The first race was at St. Tammany Speedway in 1991 with six
cars present. The Cajun Sprinters Association wasn’t incorporated
until 1992. The first president was David Heintz and the second
president was Abe Davis. The Cajun Sprinters Association is governed
by a board of members elected by the clubs own members. Joining the
Cajun Sprinters Association is simple, anyone can become a member by
racing a car with the Cajun Sprinters Association and becoming a
stockholder.
The Cajun Sprinters Association travels to races in Florida,
Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The racing season for
the Cajun Sprinters usually starts in April and ends in late
October.
There are strict rules and policies that govern every aspect
of the association from behavior to car specifications. A
general meeting is held
at the end of every season in October to set the rules for the
following season. The engine rules are locked in for 3 years.
Changes can only be made every 3 years and are also voted on by the
members to better the club itself.
The show put on by the Cajun Sprinters is a “must see” for
any race fan. The club has also had assorted sponsors for different
things but Jimmy Smith McCreary has been a sponsor for tires from
day one.
The drivers of the Cajun Sprint cars are devoted in every way
possible but their main devotion is to the fans. During intermission
at every racing event the Cajun Sprint car drivers all go over to
the spectator stands and throw “goodies” to the kids and even sign a
few autographs.
Every race night is filled with lots of action. Shows include
3 or 4 heat races, a four abreast salute to the fans, where the cars
go four wide before a 25 lap feature race that will have the hair on
your neck standing on end and you sitting on the edge of your seat!
A Cajun Sprinter event is nothing less than exciting and will leave
fans begging for more.
